Wood Preservation Methods
The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Other products are put alongside wood for easy testing and study. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. The many Merits of timber and these technologies improve wood to be superior over other products. Wood can be applied in very many applications, and this gives it an upper hand over other materials. Wood is renewable, and this makes it more precious. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.
For your wooden products and house to stay for long and have a good appearance it needs to be protected. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The moisture courses the timber to decay and the insects eat through the wood. Many methods are available in the treatment of wood one of the most common being the ACQ – alkaline copper Quaternary. This is a copper-based preservative that is applied to the wood for protection. As effective as this preservative, it has some downside to its use. The chemical is highly corrosive to most metals, the chemical corrodes away galvanized fasteners and therefore only stainless steel is used. The saturation level of any treatment will depend on where the wood is going to be used and the species of the wood. The concentration level of the chemical will be different for two pieces of wood where one is used above ground and the other close to a water body.
Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. Micronized copper wood preservative is the correct term to refer this type of preservation. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. The characteristics of the wood are highly improved and the when this process is used to treat wood. The time the wood products treated using this method last is longer other types of treatment.
The micronized copper preservative has proven to be highly effective in protecting the wood against fungal decay and termites. It has also shown to be an improvement in corrosion resistant properties to metal fasteners. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
